USERS GUIDE TO NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR

AFRICA ONLINE COTE D'IVOIRE EDITION

A. How to Connect to Africa Online

1. Double click on the Icon "Short Cut to Africa Online "
2. Be sure that the modem is on and functioning properly. Enter the access number for Africa Online Cote d'Ivoire which is either 20.02.00 or 21.88.77
3. Enter your login user name and password in appropriate places
4. Click on the button "Connect "
5. Wait for the modem to dial the access number. You may hear a long tone followed by a lot of static noise depending upon your system's setting.
6. Wait for your password to be verified by the system
7. When you see the window with the connection counter and it is actively counting, you have connected to Africa Online
8. At this point, double click on the Icon "Netscape Navigator "
9. The Homepage of Africa Online will appear in the window, you are now ready to surf the web and transmit and receive e-mail messages

B. How to Read your E-Mail Messages

1. Select the option "Window "
2. Next, select "Netscape Mail " and enter your password. You will now see the following folders:
Inbox = Received messages
Outbox = Messages waiting to be sent
Sent = Messages that have been sent
Trash = Messages that have been deleted
3. To read your messages, choose one of the messages from the list by clicking on it. Use the up/down view bar to display the entire contents of the message. Don't worry if you do not initially see the outbox and trash options, they will appear immediately after you send a message and delete a message

C. How to Send a New Message

1. Select the option "Window " and click on "Netscape Mail " and enter your password. Below the menus, you will see some buttons, click on the third from the left toward the right. (To: Mail)
2. A blank page will appear, enter the address of the person to whom you are addressing the message
3. Enter the addresses of the persons to whom you wish to send a copy of the message, separating addresses with comas.
4. Enter the subject of your message
5. Type the message you wish to send
6. Once you have finished the message, click on "File" on the menu bar
7. Click on "Send Now " Your message has just been sent. You will find a copy under the folder Sent

D. How to Respond to a Received Message

1. Select the menu option "Message " and then click on "Reply" " or you may click on the fourth button from the left as you move to the right. (Re:Mail)
2. You now have a page ready to write a message with the following items:
Send to: Recipient of the message
Object: Response subject
3. Select the option "File " click on "Include Original Text " to include the text of the to which you are replying and write your message

E. Forwarding a Message

There are two possibilities

First Possibility
1. Select the option "Message " and click on "Forward " you now have a page to write a message
2. Write the E-Mail address of the recipient
3. Send the message

Second Possibility
1. Click on the sixth button from the left moving toward the right, you now have a page to write a message
2. Write the E-Mail address of the recipient
3. Send the message

F. How to Delay the Sending of a Message

> 1. Finish writing a message
2. Select "Options "
3. Click on "Deferred Delivery "
4. Write your message
5. Click on "Send "
6. You have the opportunity to reread your message in the "Outbox " folder before the actual sending (your message has not yet been sent, it is still on your hard disc)
7. To send the message, select the option "File " and click on "Send Mail in Outbox "

G. How to Add an Attached File to a Electronic Message

1. Prepare a message to be sent
2. Click on the button "Attach "
3. Click on the button "Attach File "
4. Select the file you wish to attach by searching through the appropriate directories and choose the file, click on "Open " once you have chosen the file.
5. Choose the "Attach " option "As Is " when it appears in the Attachment Window.


6. Your file has now been attached to the message and you will see it in the attachment section

H. How to Read Attached Files

You can click on the Attachment directly or access it through the software program in which it was created.

I. How to Navigate the Web in Netscape

1. You should be on the Homepage of Africa Online
2. You can start by clicking on any of the links that are on the screen. A link is any text, icon, or graphic that when the cursor is placed over it the cursor becomes a "hand" symbol. At this time you can click the mouse and the new site will appear on the screen
3. If you prefer, you may enter the exact address, or URL, of the web site you wish to access in the "Location " space on the Netscape Browser. Be sure to enter the site address exactly taking into account lower and uppercase letters. Press the ENTER key. The site will appear on the screen.
4. The Netscape Browser automatically searches the world wide web for the site you requested and downloads a copy to your computer.

J. How to Use the Bookmarks

Using bookmarks eliminates the need to enter long URLs, or web site addresses, in the "Location " space each time you want to visit a site that you have previously visited. To add a site to your Bookmarks, select "Bookmarks " and click on "Add Bookmark " and the site will be added.

To revisit a site that you have previously bookmarked, select "Bookmark " and click on "Go to Bookmarks ", then click on the site you wish to load in the Netscape Browser.

K. Using Search Engines

Search engines allow you to search and locate web sites that interest you according to parameters that you choose. Search engines should be some of your first bookmarks.

1. Enter the URL (address) of the search engine desired in the "Location" space on the Netscape Browser and press the ENTER key.
2. The search engine will selected will appear on the browser. Each search engine is a little different and you should follow the directions provided by the search engine itself.

Here are some examples of well known search engines:

http://www.yahoo.com
http://www.altavista.digital.com
http://www.isurf.com
http://www.infoseek.com

L. The Composition of an E-Mail address

1. Your E-Mail address is in the following form:

[email protected]

2. This address must be communicated to all those to whom you send Internet E-Mail messages.

M. How to Add a Contact to Your E-Mail Address Book

The address book allows you save regularly used E-Mail addresses so that you do not have type out the full E-Mail address each time.
1. Select "Window " and then click on "Address Book ".
2. The Address Book window will appear. Select "Item" and click on "Add User "
3. Complete form to add a new contact to your address book and click on OK when you are complete.

N. How to Use Your Address Book

1. Select "File " and click on "New Mail Message "
2. Click on the button "Mail To " The Address Book will appear
3. Select the address you wish as the recipient and click on "To " to send a copy of the message
4. When you have chosen your recipient and copies, click on "OK "
