Green Cross Côte d�Ivoire is a non-gouvernemental organization (NGO). It aims at preserning the environment.

Created in july 1982 by a group of young ivorians, Green Cross Côte d�Ivoire is composed of he/she who shows a profound love in environment, and who is conscious of its protection and preservation.

Green Cross Côte d�Ivoire has a legal status, created by departmental order N� 21 INT/AT/AGP3 august 23^rd 1983.

It aims at safeguarding the environment for sustainable developpment.

To attain this goal it uses the following strategies :

• Public awareness, information, training
• Set-up and implement community projects
• Defend the community against public authority
• Collaborating with national and international organisations.

Green Cross�s motto is to inform, dissuade, to persuade, to act for sustainable developpement.

Four departments are in charge of the implementation of the programmes :

• Communication and defence department
• Forest and biodiversity department
• Water and drainage department
• Youth and environmental training department.

This organization which is headed by and administrative counsel of seven members under the authority and the monitoring of a president, deals with two categories of activities with the technical support of the executive office.

Green Cross is member of :

• National Action Plan for the Environment (NAPE)
• National Environment Counsel
• National Committee for prospective studies for Côte d�Ivoire
• Embrella organization for NGOs in Côte d�Ivoire (CONGACI). Green Cross President is the current president of CONGACI.
• National committee for the defense of the forest and

• national greenhouse project backup committee
• Industrial risks and pollution management committee
• National committee for the follow up of the convention on desertification
• National committee for the follow-up of the convention on biodiversity.

Green Cross Côte d�Ivoire is :

• Advisory member of the united nations economic and social council.
• A consulting member for the united nations programme for the environment. (UNPE)
• Member organization of Green Cross International headed by Mr Mickail Gorbatchev.
• Member of Earth Island Institute San Francisco (USA)

• Member of the african volonteer organizations for developpment forum (AVODF)
• Winner of global 500 United Nations Programme for the Environment (UNPE)
